Professor Russell Varley is a Professor at RMIT University with expertise in polymer chemistry, advanced composite materials and carbon fibre technologies. His research is highly relevant to ICAN 2027 through its focus on the design, processing and structure–property relationships of high-performance polymer composites and sustainable materials. He has made significant contributions to polymer network design, resin formulation, self-healing and reprocessable polymers, flame-retardant materials, and next-generation carbon fibre derived from novel precursors and rapid oxidation technologies. His work supports the key themes of ICAN 2027 in polymer composites, advanced functional materials, sustainable composite manufacturing, aerospace materials and the translation of materials chemistry into industrial applications.
