I am an engineer, a scholar, an educator, an inventor, and a successful entrepreneur. I have gained global recognition in bioengineering, biomaterials, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. I am a world-renowned researcher (https://hcr.clarivate.com/), recognised as one of the most highly cited academics with substantial influence across multiple fields. I have accumulated more than 96,000 citations and maintain an h-index of 144. My significant academic contributions are reflected in regular invitations to write review articles for top-tier, cross-disciplinary journals, as well as numerous sponsored invitations to present my research as a plenary or keynote speaker.

I am the founding Australian Director of the Max Planck Queensland Centre for the Materials Science of Extracellular Matrices. I am an elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences and of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. I possess a comprehensive understanding of the current state of STEM and health technologies, coupled with a clear vision of the needs of the 21st century from both academic and educational perspectives. Reflecting my pioneering ethos, my research has produced traditional scientific outputs and led to significant commercialization outcomes. This success has been achieved through a concerted, integrated leadership effort that draws on contributions from colleagues in engineering (tissue engineering, biomaterials science, computational modeling, chemistry, nanotechnology), the life sciences (molecular cell and developmental biology, medicine, stem cell research, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics), and applied clinical research (orthopedics, plastic surgery, dentistry, radiology). In summary, my distinguished research career, combined with my previous industry experience and an MBA, has equipped me with the scientific proficiency, leadership qualities, and management experience necessary to conduct cutting-edge basic and translational research and to pioneer and direct large-scale research centers and institutes.
